Sharing your way to success

S

In today’s article I am going to discuss something that *hopefully* was taught to you at a very young age.  For me, this dates back to my earliest memories of being a child.  In your life, how many times have you heard someone say, “You must share that with others.”?  I’m pretty sure it’s more than you can count!

Well, what’s old is new again.  Sharing is an excellent way to achieve better search engine rankings as well as additional traffic.  Right now, this is what I’m doing, I’m sharing my idea with you in hopes that you will visit my web site and enjoy the excellent content that I have on it.

The idea behind this concept is quite simple.  Find web sites that are looking for content, there a ton of them out where.  Begin by writing an article for them and submit them.  Articles that will receive the most response will be ones that help people – shocking, I know!

If you are looking for ideas, I would suggest by creating an article about your experience with your web site.  Just because your web site isn’t technical or a blog, etc… this does NOT mean that you cannot share with people.  No matter what your web site does or sells, there has to be something about it that you can share with others.  This can range from information about your payment processor, how you came up with your idea, etc, etc…  The possibilities are endless.

Now, you may be asking, “Why do I want to share with others?”  The answer to this is quite simple, people like it when you help them.  It’s as simple as that.  If you help people and they are interested in what you have to offer, they will visit your web site or product.  If it’s really good advice, even more people will visit your web site!

In case you still don’t believe me, let me provide you some cold hard facts.  I’ve only recently began sharing my content.  In February of this year (2009), I began my blog.  I created this blog so I can share my knowledge with people.  That and I use it as a reference for myself in my future endeavors.  I always try to blog about things I’ve done or do often, this way, when I do it again, I can just copy and paste it from my blog.  It was clear that things I write about, people enjoy.  In less than one month, my blog was gaining momentum.  I was receiving, on average, about 200 unique visitors per day.  I thought this was pretty decent, considering all I had done was write content, create a Google sitemap and let people find the content.

For the next two months, this number has remained pretty steady.  I still wasn’t committed to promoting my content, I was focused on writing.  Now that I have a bit of content up, I’ve started focusing on promoting and the best way I’ve found so far is sharing.  I’ve been doing this for about a month now and I’ve finally seen a spike in my traffic.  It’s gone from about 200 a day to roughly 400 uniques per day, with huge spikes of over 1,500 unique in a day!  Yes, this is all from sharing content.

Unique hits are great, but let’s talk dollars and cents as well.  With my 200 unique a day, I wasn’t making much money, I would average it at about $0.30 per day.  Lately that average has gone to over $1.00 a day, with peaks of over $10.00!  It sure is nice to start seeing a bit of reward out of my hard work.
